The exhibition is highlighting hidden creative talents and skills within local community groups, a showcase of art and crafts inspired by South Asian heritage and culture.

Uncover Cultural Skills is funded by National Lottery Community Fund.

1st - 30th July, during library opening hours, at Riverside Library gallery, Riverside House, Main St, Rotherham S60 1AE

Free and open to all.

This exhibition is part of the Uncover Cultural Skills project. The project seeks to support hidden creative's development and make visible inherent skills that can then be shared and celebrated widely.

By seeking representatives from across the Pakistani; South Asian; Arabic; Roma; Ethnically diverse; and new refugee communities; adults and young people to determine the direction of the project over 16 months, including workshops, skill sharing, mentoring and exhibitions.

We see this initiative as a pilot project to address some of the inequalities of access to the creative sectors infrastructure and to provide agency to those who see value in sharing and shaping their cultural heritage for the future.

The aim of the project is to uncover creative skills within different cultures and community groups in Rotherham and focus on those who might want to showcase their art work in an exhibition, event or publication or other format or to develop their skills in the creative sector. This all depends on what the groups and artists involved suggest. It's also about giving Global majority artists opportunities.

The project is working with 4 groups and 4 artists delivering 6 sessions for each group. BME Young carers group, Apna Haq, YAWR services and Steel City / Masbrough. There is a different artist working with each group.

We are spotlighting some of the workshop leaders on this project too here.
